Niseko From Up High: Explore Niseko's tree tops

Last Friday, we celebrated the grand opening of the huge 9265㎡. NAC Adventure Park. The course, made predominantly from wood and metal rope cables, sits up in the trees at 5 meters high at the lowest point and 13 meters high at the highest point. That is almost 1 hectare of fun to be had high up in the sky!   

The event started with coffee and cakes followed by a welcome ceremony with many speeches in Japanese.

Following the opening words, we watched as the ribbon was cut in style via flying fox.

After this we were strapped into harnesses and told how to clip and un-clip ourselves from the course. The creators of the park then demonstrated the beginner's course with tips on how to tackle the course.

 And then it was our turn to challenge the course.

​There are six courses altogether ranging from beginner to difficult. Each participant is provided with a map which distinguishes the different courses by colour.

We started, naturally, on the beginner's run called the "Yellow Course". 

​After we had successfully completed the Yellow course we then moved on to the easy "Green" and "Blue" courses.

These courses were very fun to do, however they required quite a bit of thinking and balance. I would recommend the course for people who are looking for a challenge both mentally and physically.

There is no age requirement for the adventure park. However in order to participate, children must be at least 115 cm for the blue and green courses and 140 cm for the red and black course. This is really important as you must unlip and clip yourself on to each activity, and if you are struggling to reach the ropes then you will have a very tough time completing the course.

The NAC Adventure Park is located adjacent to the Family Chair Lift and this is definitely a perk. It means that you can be zipping along the flying fox whilst watching skiers and snowboarders go up the lifts.

All of the safety gear and insurance is included in the 5,000 JPY cost of the activity, however I would suggest wearing old but comfortable clothing as you may end up with tree sap all over yourself. Sturdy shoes such as sneakers are also a must as your feet need to be able to grip onto the wooden boards and ropes.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and hope to return to the adventure park to tackle the "Red" intermediate course and the "Black" advanced course in the coming weeks. We are told these two courses will both scare and excite us.
