Hatsumoude (Traditional New Year's shrine visit)
“Hatsumoude” is the first visit of the year to a Shinto shrine. While you’re in Japan, why not experience the New Year in a traditional Japanese way?
Yamada Shrine is located in the Hirafu area (please see the map below) and will welcome visitors who wish to pray for happiness in the coming year.
Those who visit the shrine between midnight and 2am on 1st January 2017 will be offered free “sacred sake”! Yakitori, sweet sake (traditional New Year’s drink), and butajiru (pork miso soup) stalls will be on site, too!
