Hokkaido BBQ Tips - Why not BBQ some local favorites?

Hokkaido's specialty foods are numerous, and depending on the time of year, seasonal foods are readily available at nearby. Your usual favorite foods are fine too, but be sure to try some of the seasonal stuff you find at our local markets! See our recommendations below.

Okhotsk Atka Mackerel (Hokke)

The tres fatty, ever-popular Hokkaido izakaya gourmet staple. Frilled Okhotsk sea mackerel is very satisfying!

Lamb

"Jingisukan," the soul food of the local people of Hokkaido. Don't forget to marinate the lamb first. Oishii!!!

Salted "horumon-yaki"

Salted grilled intestine originated in Asahikawa, Hokkaido. The chewy texture and meat flavor go great with beer.

Scallops

Hokkaido scallops are in season! Grill the whole scallop, top with butter, corn, and vegetables, add soy sauce, and voila!

Asparagus and Corn

Iconic Hokkaido flavors: crisp, tender asparagus in spring and early summer. Sweet, juicy corn in mid-summer.

Makkari Pork - Yoichi Pork - Snow Pork

Hokkaido's climate is famous for dairy and beef. However, there are 20 different varieties of Hokkaido pork!
