Home Sweet Home: Staying in a house in Niseko
Aside from booking flights, perhaps the most daunting task when planning your Winter holiday is choosing where you’re going to stay. Considering the size, lifestyle and preferences of your group along with location, views and nearby amenities, there are a lot of factors that go into finding the perfect ski accommodation. If you’re travelling with a group of more than 4, a house or cottage in Niseko can be the perfect balance between an apartment in the bustling village centre and a remote cabin in the woods, with enough room and entertainment areas to make you feel right at home in Asia’s snow capital.
The benefits of picking a house over a hotel or apartment are many, especially in Niseko. They are situated out of the sometimes loud and crowded hubs of the village and ensure that you have peace and quiet to relax after a day on the pow, often times with architecture that gives you spectacular views of Mt Yotei and surrounding scenery. They give you more room in common areas like the dining and living rooms so your at-home aprés activities are never restricted and you can enjoy quality family or friend time around a spacious dining suite or sprawled out in front of the fire with a nice hot chocolate. Some also allow room for extra amenities you couldn’t find in an apartment like private onsens, private parking spaces, kids’ entertainment rooms and fireplaces.
If you’re considering choosing a house or cottage for your next stay in Niseko, check out our selection of homes in the village with great location, amenities and views.
Koho is the newest addition to our Houses collection, situated away from the hustle and bustle of central Hirafu, it’s the perfect option for a tranquil getaway. It’s newly renovated interior oozes modernity without ruining the cozy and warm feeling of a wood cabin. The living space boasts a traditional woodfire oven, comfortable lounge room and open kitchen with a small balcony overlooking Mt Yotei and the beautiful Japanese forest outside. The bedrooms also feature different wood tones to ease the eyes after a day in the bright Niseko snow and accentuate the alpine chalet feel.
This property has three bedrooms, two with double/twin configurations and the third with bunk beds for the kids, making it a great option for families. It also has all the fixings of a ski accommodation - laundry, ski locker, and BBQ.
Perhaps the best feature of this house? The complimentary car that is included with any stay, making it easy to get around the villages, to the lifts or on a day trip to a nearby resort. With the perfect balance of seclusion and access to all Niseko has to offer, Koho is a jewel in our Houses selection.
Forest Estate is a collection of 3 houses in lower Hirafu, with a great location not far from the center of the village. Each home is decorated with understated luxury, offering spectacular views of Yotei through floor-to-ceiling windows, refined design, open living spaces and warm interiors. With a theme of black and wood, there is no smoke-and-mirrors design you may find in apartments or hotels to make the space seem bigger - it simply is.
An open plan kitchen-dining-living space is framed by a stunning outlook into the winter landscape outside which opens onto a large balcony where you can take it all in. The 3 luxe bedrooms are well lit and sophisticated, creating a relaxing space to lay your head after a day of exploring the mountains or enjoying a meal in the nearby izakayas. Hardwood floors lead to the stunning bathrooms which feature modern and clean fixtures so pampering before a night on the town is a breeze. A car space, BBQ, ski lockers and drying area are also included with a shuttle bus stop and restaurants just 2 minutes away.
Greystone is by far our most luxurious and spacious offering on our Houses list, with a massive 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and an extra water closet, this is the perfect option for large groups and families of up to 18 who wish to have the ultimate Winter holiday together. The plethora of bedrooms feature cozy and luxe furnishings and the bathrooms are nothing short of spacious, making sure no one is fighting for bathroom time in the morning and evenings. A comfy living area with lush couches and a fireplace give parents and adults a place to wind down after a big day and relax, while a media room keeps the kids entertained while they’re in from playing in the fresh powder snow.
The exposed wooden beams throughout the house provide a true alpine chalet experience, not to mention the two private onsen baths in the basement area, allowing all members of the group to enjoy the unique onsen culture of Japan in the comfort of their home. A change room, drying area, huge laundry and ski locker are also in the basement area, so getting up and out each morning with fresh snow gear is never a problem. Making your way to the lifts is also easy with a complimentary shuttle for your group each morning so you don’t have to walk to the base.
This unique property is located just minutes from Hirafu intersection, surrounded by the best in cuisine and nightlife Niseko has to offer in the thriving lower Hirafu dining district. Offering a blend of Japanese and Western design, this house gives you the taste of traditional Japanese living without sacrificing creature comforts. This is a three bedroom, two bathroom house that offers spectacular views of Mt Yotei from an open living and dining area, featuring luxe wood floors and furnishings, soaring ceilings with exposed beams, a traditional tatami dining area and a cozy lounge room with TV and windows looking out to the snowy landscape that surrounds the property.
Throughout the bedrooms, bathrooms and hallways you’ll find subtle Japanese design features like tapestries, tatami floors (two of the three bedrooms are tatami/futon setup), deep bathtubs and shōji doors which allow visitors to continue their cultural experience in Japan in their home. In an international town like Niseko where influence comes from all over and authentic Japanese architecture is sometimes hard to find, visitors who stay in Ginsetsu can get the true feel of an everyday house in Japan without sacrificing the luxury of a holiday home.
Sugarpot is a favourite among families who visit Niseko, and for good reason! It includes 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and an extra water closet so there is plenty of room for up to 14 people without being too big for any potentially wasted space. Its newly renovated interior boasts a large, homely kitchen with plenty of amenities for great nights in and a robust dining table to make memories around. 3 of the 5 bedrooms are perfectly suited to kids with 2 bunk rooms and 1 room with four singles (or two doubles) and 2 master bedrooms for the parents.
A large lounge area allows room for everyone in the house to spend quality time together with views of the snow-covered forest outside. A great feature of the property is the basement ski locker and kid’s entertainment room, providing an area for the little ones to play while the adults enjoy a cocktail or two upstairs, and a common space to dry out and store ski equipment for the powdery winter days. The bathrooms are also newly renovated, with fresh, bright fixtures and heated towel racks for hard-earned relaxation after enduring the harsh Hokkaido winter. It’s no wonder Sugarpot sells like hotcakes every year - it’s the perfect family accommodation located on the free shuttle bus route and a stone throw’s away from eateries and the local onsen.
