Fly Fishing

Beginner Fly Fishing Tour

A recommended tour for those who have no fly fishing experience. The guide will show you the basics of fly fishing like how to cast! It comes in a package that includes everything you need, from fishing gear to waders.

Advanced Fly Fishing Tour

A tour for those who have previous fly fishing experience. Venture out to bigger rivers that hold different fish, such as trout and yamame. Everything you need, from fishing gear to waders, is included in this package. You are welcome to bring your own equipment and participate.

What to expect

What to wear

• Plain-coloured long sleeved shirts and long pants to protect against bugs.
• No jewelry or watches.
• Waders with boots are provided but please wear walking shoes when you come. *Please provide your shoe size at the time of booking.
• Waders (fishing pants w/ boots) will be provided as part of the tour.

What to Bring

• A hat, jacket and raincoat according to the weather.
• Water, snacks if needed.
• You can bring your cameras or electric devices at your own risk.
• Other Valuables - when bringing any valuables please remember to store them in the lockers provided.

• Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.
• Tours are conducted in English.
• Guests under the influence of alcohol may not participate in the activity. 
• Pregnant customers may not join the activity. 
• Maximum 3 pax per tour.
• Fish will be catch & release.

Ocean Fishing Tour

A sea fishing tour on a chartered boat particularly suited to beginners. The boat departs from Suttsu, which has abundant sea life and takes about 2 to 3 hours. Transfers from Hanazono and fishing gear rental is included. Once out to sea, the guide will give instructions on how to fish. You will be able to eat your catch with a seafood BBQ once back in port. The main fish species are flounder, sardines & anchovies.

What to expect

AM START
Please check in at the main activities desk at HANAZONO Activity Center before 8:35am Tour start time is 8:45am and the tour will go for ~6 hours

What to bring

• We recommend taking/bringing motion sickness pills in case of seasickness.
• There may be days that you may feel cold on the boat, we recommend that you prepare an extra outer layer.
• Sun-protective gear like a hat, sunglasses, long sleeves, and sunscreen.
• Water to prevent heatstroke. 
• A cooler for taking fish home to Niseko. (Styrofoam box and ice are available if you don't have a cooler.)
• Cameras & electronic devices at your own risk.

What to Wear

• Comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting wet.
• Shoes - No sandals without a backstrap or shoes with heels. Any non-slip shoes that you are used to wearing would be good. Rubber boots are the best if you have them.
• Life jackets and rain/spray coats will be provided by the tour provider.

NOTE: Pregnant guests and guests under the influence of alcohol may not participate in ocean fishing tours.

Beginner Bait Fishing Tour

This course offers guests various choices in terms of fishing points based on the river/weather condition as well as your fishing experience. It is recommended for beginners who would like an alternative to fly fishing and all the necessary equipment is included.

Please note

• In adverse weather conditions or when the water in the river is murky, or when the river levels rise or in other situations where this activity can not be safely undertaken, the tour providers reserves the right to cancel the activity.
• When you go fishing the guide will determine the fishing spot based on age, number of participants, weather conditions, river conditions.
• All fish caught will be released. You will be required to bait your own hooks.
• Fishing will be undertaken in natural river settings, it is not guaranteed that you will catch a fish.
• You will be in a natural environment, please follow the directions of the guide at all times. Act responsibly and look out for your own safety at all times.
• The tour is recommended for the summer season - spring and autumn fishing is possible, but may be more difficult due to the water temperature.
