Beginner Half Day Tours: Shinsennuma, Hangetsu Lake and Kagaminuma

A half day hiking trip will take you to a selected spot in Niseko according to your interests. An example of a popular half day hike is the tour to Shinsennuma Marsh where you can identify local wildflowers and relax around the marsh on the wooden paths. The Shinsennuma course is great for beginners – it’s the easiest trekking tour, with no need for any special equipment. An easy walk around Shinsennuma on a well maintained wooden path with a guide makes it a good starting point for those interested in starting to hike.
The Lake Hangetsu course is a nice and easy course, where you visit the moon-shaped lake located at the bottom of Mt. Yotei, where beautiful summer and autumn colours can be seen around the shore.
Enjoy nature in a relaxed manner while learning about the local flora and fauna unique to that season.

Kagaminuma is an intermediate course that allows you to start from Park Hyatt Hanazono. It is a quieter tour with fewer visitors compared to the Shinsennuma Marsh tour. The hike takes around 40 minutes and the difficulty is slightly higher than Shinsennuma and Lake Hangetsu.

Hiking Mt Yotei

Mount Yotei stands at 1,898 meters tall and is ranked in the top 100 most famous mountains in Japan. As the shape is similar to Mt. Fuji, it’s sometimes referred to as ‘Ezo Fuji’ [Ezo used to the name of Hokkaido]. To hike it is a challenge, but a very rewarding experience and it is an iconic mountain of northern Japan.

Mt. Yotei Full Day Tour with Mountain Guide Coyote

A day tour hiking Mt. Yotei will give you the chance to see the epic crater that sits at the peak. Since it is a dormant volcano, the mountain has an iconic cone shape and a large rim you can walk around at the top. There are four trekking paths to summit Mt. Yotei:

1. Hirafu trail
2. Makkari trail
3. Kyogoku trail
4. Kigoro trail

Be sure that you have appropriate clothing and equipment before hiking Mt Yotei, as it is one of the more difficult hikes you can do in Hokkaido. Make sure you are also adequately fit – this is not a beginner hike.
