PART 2: New Restaurants in Niseko 2019-20
Still feeling a rumble in your stomach or a thirst that needs to be quenched after reading our first ‘New Restaurants in Niseko’ post? Fear not, as we have another round up of new restaurants opening up in Niseko that we think are worth checking out if you’re looking for some fresh flavours.
Cafe Cubanos opened at the start of the 2019 season and is one of the newest additions to the cafe scene in Hirafu. Bringing great coffee and the famous Cuban sandwich to Niseko, it’s sure to make for a good post snowboard or ski feed!
Complimenting Cafe Cubano’s coffee menu are 3 cheese melts, classic ham & cheese toasties, Cuban rum cake, irresistible donuts and protein balls, all at an affordable price.
Located on the main street of Hirafu, Cafe Cubanos shares the same building as Niseko Physio, making it a great central location for the village. We think this unique cafe is definitely going to create a buzz this season and will be a social, casual spot to drop on in and grab a bite.
Known last season as Buddha Bar and Splash the seasons before that, Freddie's is the revamped concept for this iconic spot in lower Hirafu. With a fresh interior and loyal customer base growing already, it’s started the 19/20 season with a bang. New features for the bar include a DJ area that’s made out of an old gondola, a brand new team of expert bartenders and a renovated upstairs area right next to the DJ booth that’s perfect for chilling out with friends (that’s if you can score it early enough!).
Located centrally on Momiji-Zaka st, Freddies is a great place to start a classic Winter pub crawl, with a laid back vibe in the early evening which amps up to a party palace as it moves into the early hours.
Japan is famous for a multitude of things, including a world class level of technology and engineering, respectful culture, rich history and of course - anime! Niseko now has its own anime bar named Suzunoran, complete with cosplayers, shisha and board games. It’s sure to be a good night out for anime lovers or a truly unique experience if you’re looking to discover the famous world of themed bars in Japan.
Suzunoran is also unique compared to other bars by their use of a coin ‘credit’ system, where you can purchase coins and exchange them for drinks, shisha or snacks, with the more credits you purchase at once, the cheaper the coins get.
Be sure to catch Suzunoran’s regular singing shows with their team of anime girls, or rent out a private room to smoke some shisha or have a karaoke night. Suzunoran is located just above JAM Bar so it offers the opportunity to be a have a unique twist on your evening out on the town.
Born and established right here in Japan, % Arabica has decided to expand its business into Niseko to bring the much loved coffee right to our doorstep.
As worded by Arabica, “Japan is the home country of % Arabica, and we are excited to now serve our loyal customers here in the picturesque Northern city of Niseko; one of the world’s greatest ski destinations.”
% Arabica are also happy to announce that the same baristas from their Kyoto store can now come and create the same brews here in Niseko at the instantly recognizable trailer kiosk on the main street of Hirafu-zaka. The location is not only convenient for riders on their way to the lifts, but the trailer is a spacious, functional and chic space where baristas can make a delicious and freshly brewed coffee for visitors and locals alike.
Located right near the main strip in Kutchan town, Niseko Canopy is a newly opened Shisha bar that offers not only a place to enjoy a flavoursome smoke, but a dessert and fruit smoothie bar too.
Canopy is representative of the growing trend of shisha bars that are popping up all over Japan and also serves a selection of trending treats like waffles, cakes, milkshakes, and smoothies. On the shisha menu is a mix of fruity, sweet, spicy as well as traditional flavors that compliment their extensive dessert and drink menu.
With a relaxing and down-to-earth vibe, Canopy is a great place to go and check out on a relaxing day off from the mountain.
In the harsh Winter climate of Niseko, there’s nothing better than a delicious pot of Nabe shared with family and friends to warm the body and soul. Kanpai is the newest addition to the selection of hot pot restaurants in Niseko, and is currently the only one to offer an all-you-can-eat option (with a all-you-can-drink option also available!).
The standard course offers wagyu beef, pork and chicken served shabu-shabu style, as well as carefully selected high quality seafood, all sourced from local Hokkaido farms for a mouth-watering addition to the rich meat and umami broth.
Kanpai serves 8 different kinds of broth including dashi (with a vegan substitute available), a pork broth as well as a scallop and corn soup. You can experience these soups with more than 20 kinds of vegetables that let you taste the incredible produce that Hokkaido has to offer.
Kanpai have even gone to the extra effort of introducing a kids zone buffet so even the little ones can enjoy the high quality ingredients and experience the delicious food on the Kanpai menu. We recommend checking out Kanpai during your stay - it seems perfect for everyone from solo travellers to groups and families.
Three Trees enters the Niseko cafe scene this season seeking to create a down-to-earth vibe for both visitors and locals to enjoy. Three Trees is built by local artists and run by loving Niseko residents, so you know there is heart and soul in the meals they’ll be cooking up.
The cafe sells a variety of meals from pizzas and sandwiches to burgers and Japanese set meals, all for an affordable price. Three Trees is open to feed the hungry people of Niseko from the early morning before first runs until late into the evening, being open from 7am - 10pm.
If you’re looking for breakfast and a coffee before making your way to the lifts, check out Three Trees! They’re located on the first floor of the popular Maples Hotel on Hirafu-zaka.
