Front Desk team wins Silver in Snow Sculpture contest!

Usually in February each year, Kutchan Town holds the 'Yukitopia' matsuri: a Winter festival for visitors and locals to enjoy.

But since gathering in large crowds is not COVID-safe in 2021, the town decided to hold an event that would bring together the community in a different way - a snow sculpture contest!

Hokkaido was in need of home-grown snow sculptures this Winter, as the popular Sapporo Snow Festival (which usually has hundreds of sculptures for visitors to enjoy) was also cancelled due to COVID-19.

The contest called upon local residents and businesses to give snow sculpturing a try, and many prizes were up for grabs. The competition ran from February 1st - 18th, and the winners were to be announced on the 21st February.

The front desk team at Niseko Landmark View (our most popular apartment property) decided to enter the competition by building a sea turtle sculpture with the iconic Mt Yotei on its back. Kutchan Tourism Association immediately posted the sculpture on their Instagram profile out of excitement, so it seemed they were in the running for a prize!

Many other incredible sculptures were submitted throughout the competition, like the Totorro at Mikke (which ended up scoring first prize) and the Jagata-kun by the Shiribeshi Promotion Bureau (which won a Gold prize).

Much to our delight, the NLV front desk team won the Silver prize!

Congratulations team, and congrats to all the other winner and participants! This was a great Winter event to get the community engaged in a safe way, and made our town look beautiful during February.
