2020 Winter Taiko Drumming

Mt Yotei's very own Koryu drumming group will be performing every Sunday between 5th January and 8th March, 2020 in the heart of Hirafu village. With the group performing traditional drumming concerts between 3-3:30pm, it's a great opportunity to experience local Hokkaido music and art with pulsating rhythms and an unbeatable energy.

"Koryu is a dynamic Taiko drumming group based at the foot of towering Mt Yotei performing a poweful synthesis of rhythm, harmony and body movements. Founded by master Taiko drummer Rokuro Takada in Kutchan, the group aims to carry on his ambitions of contributing to the growth of culture in the local area while rediscovering this powerful native art.

"The group strives to exemplify the principles of 'jyu ran ni shyo' in all its endeavours and 'inherit the master's accomplishments, strive to understand his emotions and persevere endlessly'. Witnessing a Koryu performance is memorizing - you can hear, watch, see and feel the thundering sounds of the drums as they invite you into the world of Taiko."
