Sapporo Snow Festival

The Sapporo Snow Festival started in 1950 as a humble event, in which some local high school students displayed their sculptures in Odori Park. Joined by the local self-defense forces which built the first giant snow sculptures the festival has become famous for, it has seen millions of visitors over the years. These days the number of fantastical creations carved from ice and snow average about 400 sculptures.
*Please note: due to Coronavirus, the festival has been cancelled for 2022. Snow sculptures will be available for viewing on the official website. Details will be shared when known.
