Niseko Autumn Food Festival: on this weekend!

Summer in Niseko has ended, say goodbye to the lush green landscapes and warm weather for another year and say hello to Autumn in all its glory - red leaves, cooler temps and of course, incredible seasonal food!

To celebrate, Niseko will hold its second annual Autumn Food Festival this weekend 12th - 15th September. Following the popularity of a similar event held in Sapporo for the last 12 years, the Autumnal excitement has eventually seeped out of the major city and into Niseko, where its own foodie scene is growing in notoriety with every passing year.
With space for wide open crops and a thriving farming culture in and around Niseko in towns like Kutchan and Makkari, it’s no surprise that the area is a great producer of delicious fruits and vegetables - not to mention the famous Hokkaido milk products that all of Japan can’t get enough of. This has allowed Niseko to build its own unique identity in Japan’s culinary scene, offering its unique combination of worldly influence from its high foreigner population, passionate techniques from locals and bountiful produce from volcanic soil to create a taste and feel that is truly indicative of the culture in South-West Hokkaido.

This year, twelve local restaurants, cafes and bars will put their flair for Autumnal foods on offer for everyone to try, with special dishes being created just for the festival. It’s a great opportunity to taste food from all over throughout Niseko and try exclusive dishes from chefs whose restaurants may be difficult to dine at during the busier months. The participating eateries for the 2019 Niseko Autumn Food Festival are:
- An Dining
- Black Wood Grill
- DNA
- Jam Bar
- Klass Kitchen
- Koharuya
- Niseko Pizza
- Toshiro’s Bar
- Mick’s
- Cedar Coffee Co.
- Niseko Green Farm
- Plus there will also be a special Shiribeshi stand as part of the offerings since the festival will coincide with this year’s G20 Tourism Ministers meeting in Kutchan.
As with any Japanese festival, live music and activities will form part of the festivities with bands and artists playing every day over the weekend and jumping castles for the kids. For the adults, Hirafu favourite Musu will be holding after parties from 9pm each night for an opportunity to get together and celebrate the success of the summer season over a beer or cocktail.
